My Other Brother, Camberwell

@food.fiend.melbourne

Camberwell has become one of the latest suburbs in the east to burst onto the scene with a million new cafes. Heritage Wall, Prospect Espresso, Legacy, Collective Espresso, Dish & Spoon, Miss Frank etc. My Other Brother is a sister (or brother) cafe to Age of Sails, Tinker & Penta, which are owned by cafe giants that consistently produce high quality cafes with stunningly plated dishes.

What I love about MOB, is that it's super popular, but the wait time is never very long. Granted, we did go at 2pm on a Saturday, and it was still busy, but I imagine that it is absolutely pumping on Sundays when it opens up onto the Camberwell Markets. It was very loud during our visit, but our food came out quickly and we got to sit near the sunny window, so we didn't mind.

I've been before an ordered the Bircher, the burger, the chilli scrambled eggs and the smashed avo. All delicious, but the two dishes we ordered today, were definitely my favourite so far.

I ordered a cappuccino, a passion/mango smoothie & the orange hot cakes ($19). I always love the look of their smoothies, but they cost $10.50. I bit the bullet this time and ordered one. While the flavour was nice and rich, it was tiny, and I don't think, worth the money. The cappuccino was fantastic.

The orange hot cakes were outstanding. The serving size was perfect, with two, medium sized, pancakes topped with marscapone, strawberries, grapefruit curd, cacao nibs and pavlova chunks. I demolished it. Couldn't recommend it more. A very sweet dish, but very satisfying.

My boyfriend ordered the granola bowl ($17.50) and said it was absolutely delicious. It was meticulously arranged, but as soon as photos were done, he stirred it all into a purple-brown mush. He also had a passion/mango smoothie and said that he would probably just get a Boost next time, as it tasted the same.

I highly recommend My Other Brother in Camberwell. It serves some of the same delicious dishes that the associated cafes serve, but it's closer to those of us in the 'burbs and the wait time isn't as extreme. For two drinks, one coffee and two dishes, we paid $61.70. Shoutouts also, to @sweaterclubaus for my favourite jumper :)
