Collective Espresso, Camberwell

@food.fiend.melbourne

We were invited to Collective Espresso for lunch today as bloggers. We had visited previously as customers, but their menu has changed since then. We ordered a latte, salted caramel milkshake, the Collective Sigh of Relief big brekky and the pulled pork breakfast tacos. I was going to order the Insta-famous "Gravity Waffles" but I was in the mood for something more savoury.

The Collective Sigh of Relief came served with eggs your way, tomato, wilted spinach, mushroom, cheesy hash and beans on sourdough toast. In order to make it filling, we had to add $8 of extras (fried halloumi and smashed avocado). Everything on its own tasted nice, but the beans were put directly on to the toast, which made it soggy and we ended up pushing it to the side. There was less bacon than everything else, but the halloumi and cheesy hash tasted great.

The pulled pork taco came served with three on the plate, which was way too much. Two of the tacos had poached eggs inside them, so they were too tricky to pick up and I ended up eating them with a knife and fork. The corn salsa had a lovely flavour and the pulled pork was cooked very nicely, but the tortillas were all dry and crunchy around the edges. There was also a lot of dill sprinkles on top, which I dragged off to the side.

Collective Espresso have a very eclectic menu, but some of the dishes might have a few too many things happening in them. Their staff are friendly, but were not overly attentive during this visit and we ended up leaving before they'd cleared our table. This venue is a great spot for lunch catch ups if you are getting the train, but there is also ample (ticketed) street parking available :)
