Le Clec, Hawthorn

I had the pleasure of being invited to Le Clec in Hawthorn last week for a late brunch. The cafe is a 5 minute walk from the station and is also near a ticketed parking area across the road. Finding free street parking in a bit of a nightmare.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous. You can sit in the shop front, or in an enclosed area near the kitchen or in the gorgeous outdoor area, out the back. We chose the latter.

We ordered drinks to start and I chose the Dragon Iced Tea and my friend had the cold drip coffee. Both came out in a cute, mini glass beakers. The iced tea had a nice flavour, but was not very strong, but the cold drip was excellent.

We then ordered 3 dishes to share - the Seasonal Avocado with poached eggs ($17.50), the Truffle Chicken Burger with fries ($19) and the Toasted Brioche ($16).

The truffle burger was the perfect size when paired with the chips. The bun was light and not too sweet. The chicken had a slight spice and citrus that paired with aoli well. Not the best burger compared to others but good to have a savory bun not a sweet one. Chips were the go to - they were thick cut, still crunchy and had a nice mystery salt flavour.

The seasonal avocado was beautifully presented. It came with two huge slices on multigrain bread and a mountain of avocado on top. It also came with a poached egg (which was cooked perfectly. The yolk was still runny, but didn't run all over the place - amazing!) and some truss tomatoes. I only ended up eating one of the slices of bread, but thoroughly enjoyed a loaded meal.

The brioche toast was also stunning. It came with 4 triangles, dusted with matcha, and had an assortment of toppings - toasted meringue, yuzu curd, whipped chocolate ganache and orange maple. We shared this dish and it was plenty. I think it would have been two sweet to eat all on your own.

Le Clec is an absolutely gorgeous venue that serves a range of delicious menu items that are a fusion of french and asian cuisine. They have ample seating and are suitable for small and large groups. Thank you so much for having us, team :)
