The Dessert Kitchen, Melbourne

@food.fiend.melbourne

We visited The Dessert Kitchen, in China Town, Melbourne on the weekend and were treated to a sugary feast! We went with 6 other bloggers and some of their +1's.

The venue is very modern with white walls, glass shop front & cool, black rope patterns on the walls. We were seated upstairs, which was decked out with about 20 tables & a projector - perfect for sugar-themed functions.

The service was OK. The staff were not very chatty and did not want to explain what any of the dishes were when they were brought to our tables. There was a button on the table so that you could order additional items, but we did not use them. We did not have any table water, which would have been welcomed with the amount of sugar we were consuming.

We started with one of their signature hot chocolates that came with an adorable marshmallow bear ($6). The longer you left the drink, the more distraught your bear looked, but the marshmallow tasted great and the hot chocolate was nice & rich.

We were then served their new menu item, the Pina Colada Coconut Bowl ($8.50). This tasted absolutely delicious! It was pina colada flavoured soft serve, topped with fresh fruit, sweet popcorn & served in a real coconut. All the flavours were very complimentary, but it would have been nice to eat the coconut afterwards, but the cream was too hard after housing ice cream.

Next, we tried the Grass Jelly with watermelon ($6.50) & "The Snowy Land" ($9.50). The Snowy land came with strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberry, pudding, nata de coco, mini rice balls & vanilla ice cream. It was so good!! My boyfriend didn't think much of the grass jelly, but liked that it came with fresh watermelon instead of just watermelon flavouring.

Our last dish was a serve of the waffles ($13.50). We asked for it with grape rum ice cream (just for something different), but it was a bit too sweet to have with an already sweet dish. The waffles were nice and crunchy, but the strawberry topping was not necessary.

Overall, a very pleasant visit to Dessert Kitchen in Melbourne. I don't think I'd drive into the city to visit specifically, but if I was already in there and in the mood, I'd definitely go and order the pina colada coconut bowl and the hot choccie.

Thanks for having us, team and thank you to @takingabite for organising the event :)
