I had brunch with the bestie at The Hidden Horse this week and had an absolutely wonderful time. On Victoria St in Richmond, right next to a brand new park, this cafe is the perfect spot for families and brunch lovers. The cafe is surrounded by apartments blocks, including a current constructions site over the road, and will no doubt be a go-to for locals in the near future. The building site is a tad noisy, but does not detract from the tasty food and drink. There is lots of parking surrounding the cafe, both on Victoria St and in surrounding side streets.

Alex and Tess, the owners, have created a fantastic menu and cafe atmosphere for their customers. They have kept their menu small and simple, but full of delicious and generous meals with good quality produce. They have recently simplified their menu in order to produce quality over quantity. The coffee was absolutely delicious and complimented our meals perfectly. We also ordered a banana smoothie ($6.50), which tasted great (strong nana flavour) and was served in a traditional milkshake glass - none of that tiny glass jar rubbish that so many places are doing these days.

I had the Trojan Breakfast ($18) that came with eggs on toast (done any way) and a very generous serving of rindless bacon, fried chorizo, spinach, mushrooms, tomato and a homemade hash brown. This dish was huge and I loved every part of it, especially the chorizo and the hash brown. It was so nice to eat a dish that had delicious flavours and had everything made on site and the yolk porn in my poachies was unreal.

Bestie had The Apollo chicken burger ($15) that consisted of a homemade fried chicken schnitzel, coleslaw, cheese and sweet chilli mayo on a brioche bun. It came with a side of stringy fries and Bestie said that the schnitzel was absolutely delicious. Again, so much nicer to have everything on the plate be made on-site over being store bought. He also loved the good quality steak knives that were used as cutlery in place of the regular butter knives - it made eating much easier! haha

The Hidden Horse is a hidden gem and the Richmond locals are very lucky to have such a vibrant and passionate team working for their best interests. The owners are looking to create the best possible food and atmosphere for their patrons and they are doing an excellent job.
