Pescys, Thornbury

@food.fiend.melbourne

We visited Pescys last week on a gorgeous, sunny day. The restaurant has a fantastic range of plants, art & furniture that creates a fun and inviting vibe that we enjoyed while sitting outside. They have a very clear mission statement about eating healthy and giving back to the environment – something you can read about on their menus.

We ordered a juice and an iced tea to start – both were delicious! I also appreciated their use of environmentally friendly, metal straws. Some places go over the top with presentation, but our drinks were served in a tall glass with a simple garnish and still looked super inviting – sometimes less is more.

I ordered the salt and pepper calamari with fries and garden salad and my friend ordered the flathead with fries and coleslaw. Both dishes were absolutely massive and presented beautifully. The only issue being that there was so much food on the plate that it was hard to negotiate and actually use cutlery to eat. Note: the dishes do not come with any condiments, but they are available inside. The calamari was nice and crispy and not stringy, like it can often be. The salad had a beautiful dressing. The flathead had a very strong flavour and fell apart as you cut it.

I am not a local in Thornbury, but will definitely be back to visit Pescys if I’m ever in the area. The food is ace, the staff are lovely and the drinks are delicious. They are sure to become a Friday night favourite for locals very soon.
